Original wayspot photo
Current state - 09/23/2026
I understand that the electrical cabinet itself is still there, and I agree that the physical object has not disappeared.
However, I believe the Wayspot does not really represent the electrical cabinet itself, but rather the artwork / visual display that was originally on the front of the cabinet when the Wayspot was created.
Today, that original display has been completely covered by posters and stickers. The original feature is no longer recognizable. I took a new photo on September 23, 2026, which clearly shows the current state of the location.
So while the cabinet is still physically present, the point of interest represented by the Wayspot no longer exists in its original state and can no longer be identified. Simply keeping the Wayspot because the electrical cabinet is still there does not seem appropriate to me, since the cabinet itself is a generic utility structure.
More importantly, whatever historical or local interest the original display may have had is no longer present. In its current state, I don’t believe this location still provides the same value for exploration or for the Wayfarer community.
I would therefore appreciate it if a member of the Wayfarer team could take another look at this case, considering the current state of the location and the difference between what the Wayspot originally represented and what is actually there today.
Hi,
I’m just following up on this topic, which I originally posted on September 23rd, as I haven’t received any further response yet.
This is an appeal regarding the refusal to remove the Wayspot, and I would really appreciate it if an Ambassador could take a look at my case and let me know whether a review of the decision would be possible.
I also found some interesting documentation showing that this is actually a known issue in Geneva. These decorated electrical cabinets were originally created as artistic installations and, among other things, were intended to discourage vandalism and graffiti. However, some of these cabinets have since suffered significant deterioration, and the lack of maintenance means that they can progressively lose the artistic, historical or distinctive interest they originally had.
This is also documented in Geneva, where the deterioration and maintenance of these decorated cabinets has been raised as an issue:
I believe this provides some useful context for my appeal, as the current state of the cabinet is very different from what the original Wayspot photo represents.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can take a look at the case.
Thanks for further information.
It is only the Wayfarer Team members that will review, consider and decide. Their names all start ScopelyExp.
You just need to wait for now 2 - 3 weeks is not wholly unusual.
Hi elijustrying,
Thank you for your reply and for clarifying the process. I understand that I have to wait for the Wayfarer Team’s review, although I do find the waiting time rather long for what seems like a relatively straightforward case.
I passed through the area again recently and took a clearer photo showing further deterioration of the electrical cabinet.
My main point is that, if this cabinet were submitted as a new Wayspot today in its current condition, I believe it would clearly be rejected. The current state is significantly different from what is shown in the original Wayspot photo, which is why I believe the removal request deserves reconsideration.
I’m adding the new photo here as further evidence for the review.
Thanks again for your response.
This is a tricky one. I wouldn’t be surprised for either a removal or the wayspot remaining. Although this wouldn’t be accepted now by reviewers, the POI is still there and it is plausible that the posters stuck on top might get removed.
I agree that this is an ambiguous case, which is exactly why I decided to bring the removal request to the forum for further discussion.
As mentioned in the article I linked above, many electrical cabinets were decorated years ago, sometimes with direct paintings and sometimes with art stickers. It was a great initiative, and around 90% of these cabinets remain intact, as people generally respect the artwork. Unfortunately, some have suffered damage, and one act of vandalism often leads to another, until the original artwork is eventually lost. The city doesn’t necessarily maintain these cabinets anymore, except perhaps in the more touristic areas of the city centre.
The cabinet itself is still there, of course, but if an ordinary electrical cabinet qualifies as a Wayspot regardless of its original artwork, that would be good news, as there are thousands of them throughout the city!
Anyway, this is certainly open for discussion, and I think the best thing to do is wait for a team member to make a decision. There are a few other Wayspots around the city in a similar situation, although they seem to be a small minority.
