A new question for Wayfarer Criteria has come out of this appeal of a historic town hall being duplicated to the fountain in front of it:

Are unrelated objects close to each other duplicates just because they fit together on a photo?

Now in all seriousness, they have been constructed around 200 years apart from each other and are not even in the same property. Also the title is wrong, the fountain is actually called Marktbrunnen, as it was built at the… Market (and subsequently that’s also the street name, Marktstraße).

The only common thing in this Wayspot is Riegersches Haus being in both photos. So where does this appeal result come from?

This wayspot exists:

Rathausbrunnen (48.625845,9.337451)

It has a photo from 2013, plus one from July 2026 from your submission. The two photos look like the same building. I suspect the problem was caused by the photo of the fountain actually being of the building, with the fountain hiding in front and not being at all obvious.

Because it would have been ridiculously easy to take a good photo just of the fountain, with the only photo being the town hall + fountain, the obvious interpretation is that the existing wayspot is of the Town Hall + Fountain, not just of the Town Hall Fountain.

The wayspot is named for the fountain and the fountain is in the photo, I don’t think the house simply being in the back of the photo makes them a 2in1 deal?

I’m just saying there is room for interpretation, since the decision was (deliberately) taken to photograph the fountain + town hall instead of the fountain. If you look on streetview, there are so many other angles that could have been chosen.

The building is behind the fountain but is the most prominent feature - I saw the house first and struggled to see the fountain. Once you know it’s there, you see it.

So to make this weird thing further, I nominated the town halls sign instead to get around ML and now both, the town hall and the fountain, each have a wayspot. But the incorrect photo on the fountain Wayspot remains
