Why was this Seven-Headed Naga Fountain rejected?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some feedback on why this nomination may have been rejected before I try submitting it again.

The rejection reason I received was:

“The submission is likely not permanent or distinct.”

I’m having a hard time understanding that reason in this case. This is a large seven-headed Naga sculpture installed as the centerpiece of a dedicated tiled water fountain. It appears to be a permanent installation, and it is also very visually distinct from everything else in the surrounding courtyard.

The Naga also has cultural significance in Thailand and is a very recognizable figure in Thai mythology, art, and architecture. I thought that, combined with this being a decorative fountain and piece of local art, made it a good place to discover.

The fountain is located in a shared outdoor courtyard along a small commercial lane near a university. There are restaurants and other local businesses and services surrounding the area, and local residents and students regularly visit the area. It is also easily accessible on foot with plenty of pedestrian space around it.

I’ve included screenshots of the nomination, rejection reason, main photo, and supporting photo.

Unfortunately, I can’t appeal this nomination right now because I’ve already used my available appeals. I’m considering resubmitting it, but before I do that, I wanted to ask the community if there is something I’m overlooking.

Does anyone see a reason this wouldn’t qualify, or anything I should change in the title, description, photos, or supporting information before resubmitting it?

This seems like a strange rejection reason. Could you share the rest of the nomination, including location and supporting statements?

I would try a new photo that is not so close on the statue and show the entire fountain as the main. Maybe it is looking like a simple small statuette with the close up, and reviewers rejected before scrolling down to see the rest of the nomination?

In the supporting photo I uploaded here and the submission, I thought it looked nice. It’s fairly large. I could try a different image with more of the surroundings, but I just wanted to Seven headed fountain peice as the stop. I thought it would be a good image to have.

I would feel better advising if you posted screenshots from the contribution. But based on what you have shared, I would zoom out a bit for the main photo for a resubmit, and add more supporting photos to confirm the location. I can’t match this fountain to anything I see on satellite or street view at the location you shared.

It’s at the dead end of a street that doesn’t have a street view image. I will use more supprting images showings its location better if I can but its behind another sign tucked away in the court yard. So its a little hard to get an imagine showing the complete surroundings.

What other images from the submission would be helpful? I posted on of the first half right?

I would mention that the fountain area can be seen in satellite view, and you could include that screenshot pointing to it as one of the photos. Have some of the supporting photos include some of the businesses you can see in street view AND the fountain area.

Let us know how the resubmit goes. I am really stunned that this was rejected.
