Changes to Submitting Wayspots - Discussion

well that’s one way to inform people. many casual players don’t even realize these third-party tools are out there.
Submitters shouldn’t have to reply on browser extensions just to figure out why their accepted nominations aren’t showing up on their map

Your argument seems to be coming from both sides.

You say “Submitters shouldn’t have to reply on browser extensions just to figure out why their accepted nominations aren’t showing up on their map” but seem to be wanting to keep the In Game option that doesn’t answer this either…

It is no worse than it is now.

Long time wayfinders, like myself, in this community have broken the bad news to many people over the years. Its never a nice task. So it is an issue that is well known.

It was a pain point that when submitting in Pokemon Go the language was rooted in pokestops, and although this was integral to the experience it had the negative effect of softening the message that you were nominating a possible wayspot, and the Pokemon Go selection rules may not accept it into the game.

There is a plus side that the once on the website the language moves over to wayspots. I doubt that its perfect, and many wont even notice it, but it is a shift in what I think is a good direction.

Also the new/casual user may find the tab “Criteria” and read before submitting.

So much for being able to submit waypoints. I’m not giving browsers access to location. We need a fix for this real quick.

Why is it a problem to give the browser your location when the game has your location? This is a location based hobby. You literally can’t do it without being located.

I just don’t like the change. I liked doing it through the pokemon go app because it’s convenient. I don’t want to have to switch from the game to the browser constantly to add stops. Honestly, i was planning on mapping a local hiking park that is over 100 acres of signs, trail markers, footbridges, statues, and stuff but now that I’ll have to be switching back and forth I probably won’t bother mapping stops now. When i have pokemon go open i want to stay in that app and play the game not bounce around on different apps and sites.

I’ve tried using the browser to make stops before and I didn’t like it. Doing it through pokemon go was easier and less hassle. This change sucks and it was unnecessary. Probably an unpopular opinion but its a hill i feel like dying on.

Back to complaining… I typically hike and add stuff in heavily forested areas or very rural areas. I need accurate in game tracking to make stops and pokemon go provided that. With wayfarer in the browser its not giving me accurate locations of where I’m standing so seeing trail markers is nearly impossible on maps. I cant move the pinpoint to an accurate location. Never had this issue when submitting through pokemon go. It’s frustrating and really screws us rural players even more.

I also do hiking trails and state parks. I was in a low signal area this weekend and I was unable to submit in the game. I simply took my pictures and continued. When I got to an area with signal, I extracted the GPS coordinates from the picture and did my draft. The rest I did at home.

Thing is, their location tracking shouldn’t be inaccurate. Even when i have full signal its off on Wayfarer’s side. I never had this issue with pokemon go or any other app. I only have it with Wayfarer in browser. They need to fix their stuff if they want to force people to do it this way. I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops because they have problems on their side. They should have a functional product and if it isn’t they need to do something about that before forcing this change. That’s not an outrageous ask.

I’ve had so many problems with the game GPS that I now check the coordinates as soon as I get the nomination email.

Thats weird because pokemon go has always been accurate for me. Wayfarer browser always shows me up to a mile away from where I’m actually at. Doesn’t matter if i have full cell signal, restart my phone, clear cache, its never been accurate on Wayfarer browser to submit stops for me.

Because the game is just scopely, browsers are any number of websites run by who knows how many different companies. I prefer to know exactly who is getting access to that data, which isn’t realistic on a browser.

The accuracy of your location data is entirely the responsibility of your phone and what permissions is set for apps to access this. I’ve watched my location jump around by a few hundred meters and every app shows the marker in the same place - there’s nothing the apps can do about this.

Its only that one site having the problems and nothing else. It freaked me out when it first happened so i even took my phone back to Verizon to be repaired but nothing was wrong with my phone. They said it was something wrong with the wayfarer site and not my phone. :woman_shrugging:

Donner sa location a un jeu qui doit respecter certaine règle de confidentialité c’est une chose.
Donner sa localisation a google qui fait tout pour avoir accès au plus de données possible c’est autre chose…

If you are using Android, there is a very strong chance you are giving your location to Google already. If on iPhone, you’re giving it to Apple, who are just as trustworthy.

Tous les navigateurs internet au monde sont développés par Google?..

Not all but many are based on Googles Chromium platform.

The following is AI so don’t take as gospel but you get the drift…
