I am having similar-ish issues when using Firefox. For a while, I could ‘remind it’ to recognise my location by tapping on the ‘centre on my location’ symbol. At that point the blue circle would appear, and I would be able to create drafts and subs.
As of the last three days, tapping on that symbol does nothing, and I am forced to switch to Chrome.
It’s not the end of the world, but one more additional awkward aspect.
I know there is a topic about tips for web submitting, but I can’t find it right now, so am posting here.
Be sure to double check the pin before tapping “Submit” as a lot of folks are finding the pin is not where they thought they put it. You can set the map to show Satellite view to confirm the pin is reasonable. Some people assume their location is being picked up correctly but it is not. Other people accidentally move the map around while advancing through the nomination. Text can be edited after submitting, but the pin and photos cannot.
tldr: Double check the pin location before submitting.
I was only including that because you listed various other reasons that could cause the pin to move after you said that.
Knowing how it ends it up the wrong place is important - there’s a lot of ways this can happen, but “accidently moved while scrolling” and “automatically moved from uploading photo” are the worst ones (because they should have been fixed by Scopely Explore and are not user error).
I had one I stumbled upon Monday, so created the draft on the spot instead of ahead of time as I usually do, where it put the pin in the shopping center across the street from where I was. I have no idea how it decided I was there - the pictures weren’t taken there and I hadn’t driven there. I uploaded photos standing right there where I took them so they shouldn’t have moved the pin. And to top things off, when I started dragging the pin, I brought it back to where my gps indicator was showing I was standing! Crazy.
I think the switch to Web submit has been beneficial.
Higher acceptance rate when uploading multiple supporting images
Ability to take pictures and submit them later.
If submitting later the location marker is set automatically from the image (no worries about wrong location).
One minor improvement would be to relax the distance for remote submissions. I documented a location on the other side of town to submit later but when I tried to submit at home, it turned out to be too far.
There is a workaround - create a draft when you are within 10km.
You don’t have to upload photos - all you have to do it set the location (I would also enter a minimal title). The location can then be corrected later, but only within a certain amount (of which I am unsure).
To add - once you have set a location that is within 10km of your actual location at that moment in time, that submission is flagged as “location valid”, so you can edit the location regardless of where you are.
Equally, you can create a draft from anywhere, but then have to be within 10km range if you want to get the “location valid” flag to be set.
there is ONE BIG PROBLEM when submitting new pokestops, and you cant figure out where exactly the point of interest is, because the map shows only the “pre-defined” visualization.
I always used the satellite images to point the exact spot of the point of interest but now, if you do it, for example, in a par, that’s completely impossible!!!
I hope in the future (asap) there will be available the satellite view of the map, otherwise you will have ruined another thing of this game
Not sure how that removes concerns about wrong location, if anything I’d expect that to cause more issues. Photos are often taken a short distance away from the actual place / object being submitted, especially if the thing being submitted is big enough to require some distance to get a good photo of it.
Hopefully would at least remove any risk of ban for wrong location. It looked to me like for this situation you could not go back and adjust the location.
I have been away for a while. And I will say for someone on the go - the old way was so simple.
So - I tried one new submission on the system. Had to know make changes to permissions on my mobile. Did not save as draft what I thought I had saved. Logged into laptop (Where I was quite excited for this new POI - so had high hopes this new system worked)). What draft saved had no PIn. No images. Nada. I saved multiple times. The old system I would have been done and dusted in seconds.
Why I could not stay in app is beyond me. I know remove stuff from the game so the game is focused on people playing not creating. Remove code function so QA activities can be better. Blah blah blah.
Ups and downs. I will get used to it. I am sure. But I was disappointed at how poor it is compared to the old way. Yeah yeah. If I had not had the issue I would be on top of the world. I know
Horses for courses as some people will think this it is better. And for new people. What problem just fine as nothing to compare to. And in a couple of weeks once I am bedded in I will fight tooth and nail on how good it is!!
Oh well Onwards and upwards and to the next nomination
So this is my first reply from this. I am glad we are now fully commit on submitting in website, and got category removed.
However, I don’t think this is a beginner friendly, I have been told by a lot of newcomer that “why we have to hop in another website” to submit, or they don’t know draft exist, or placing a location, or what is supporting photo.
Is it possible if we can have onboard on how to submit, or at least a visualization to newcomer who first submit a Pokestop?
Not a big numbers nominator so only about 55 Accepts in Total (approaching 2 years) with 11 of those in the last month
As stated above, through PoGo with my last phone was a nightmare, had no issues so far with Web-Submit.
I have been creating Drafts at Home, then upload images on site then complete after researching at home.
The majority of mine (and all since web-submit) have been within 10km but I would love someone with more experience of nominating further afield to create a check sheet of what happens using different process.
Such as…
Within 10km - Draft Title at Home - Upload images on site. Complete at home (I know this works).
Within 10km - Draft Title at Home - Take images on site then upload back home. Complete at home.
Then the same but over 10km
Any other scenarios that I have missed.
