Mosque/Madrasa nomination rejection

Hello All,

I thought I’d start a new thread about my friend’s mosque nomination that was rejected. It was rejected on two grounds:

  1. The photo submitted is from a third party source (her Mum took the pictures as she was going there anyway)
  2. The submission is on an educational facility, primarily for children aged 18 and under.

Now this second point is where she is considering to appeal. There are a good handful of mosques that are already Pokestops in our town and about 90% of them are madrasas (educational facilities) for under 18s, or have an attached school on the premises.

The screenshot provided for Masjid Ghuraba is from 7 years ago, but in the red circle you will see the beginning of a sign that is for Olive Tree Primary school which is in the same building.

There are two more screenshots here where a mosque is also catering to under 18s daily, and one community centre that is on the same premise as a nursery (under 4s).

So based on this, we think there are inaccuracies on how the submissions are being accepted. Maybe because some reviewers are unaware that a mosque/madrasa most often always provides educational sessions daily/weekly to under 18s though it is always accessible to the public.

So, should she put in a new submission with all this info, appeal the rejection with supporting evidence, or just leave it alone?

Nobody would know who took the photo, the 3rd party image means that it can not have appeared elsewhere online. Was it added to Facebook?

No, sent through WhatsApp I believe, which is owned by Meta.

If sent direct then that should not have caused a “3rd Party Image” rejection, not sure how it would work if sent to group.

I would suggest re-submitting, go take new images and don’t post them anywhere else. Consider the words used for the Title / Description / Supplemental carefully (as stated in the other thread) and you will have a better chance.

If you wish you could create a post in “Nomination Support” include everything as you would in the nomination (staff have stated posting photos here will not cause a 3rd Party rejection but you could take extras and post similar) and ask for advice.

People here are always willing to give advice (sometimes without being asked  ) plus with this forum being moderated if any bad advice is given it will be commented on my the Ambassadors and Staff that read every post.

That sounds great. Posting here first definitely would help make her submission better. Thank you so much for taking the time to help on both threads.

You are welcome…

It is often stated here that the best threads are when someone comes here for the first time with questions, maybe mis-understanding the criteria and sometimes sounding extremely annoyed but leave with a better understanding.

Please update this post when you get the successful nomination

It won’t be long before you spend much more time here than you ever had on the games and you will be explaining to first time posters how to improve their chance of success.

I don’t know if this will help, but here’s a similar-ish sub that I got accepted last month:

This one was tricky die to the last of signage, but thankfully there was a good website I could link to. I believe that this site also hosts kids’ religious classes, but that wasn’t obvious and it wasn’t relevant, so I didn’t mention it.

(I also had a brainfart and wrote ‘community criteria’ instead of social!)

That’s very helpful, thanks.

The mosque we wanted to nominate also has a website which I think would be good to link to. The mosque was established in 1999 and the school was established in 2004. So, hopefully providing that information will sway reviewers that the Mosque was and still is its own entity from the school.

I would suggest minimising the mentions of the school. Not lying or anything like that, but don’t draw unnecessary attention to it.

Hm, but if we provide signage and website links, that would also include info about the school. Would it not be better to clarify that it’s specifically the mosque portion of the premise that we are nominating. We’re really afraid of getting banned! I’ve had my account since the game released and she has had hers since 2018.

Unless your sub is actually misleading (i.e. saying things that are blatantly untrue) then there is very little risk of a ban. You don’t believe that the education aspect is relevant. Personally, I agree and wouldn’t mention it if it were a simple submission for a obvious mosque, church etc.

That said, if the educative aspect is front and centre on the website, then yeah, you will probably have to put a disclaimer into the additional text.

I should perhaps put in my own disclaimer here, that I have been assuming that this isn’t a ‘full’ school – i.e. it’s not registered as a school that teaches a full curriculum to children 9-3, Monday-Friday, but rather more like an after-school club / Sunday school situation.

If it’s more like a Catholic school that is attached to a church, then this could be considerably trickier and may not be eligible, depending on the physical separation, if there is any.

I will also state that as we are not staff please take everything we say as our opinion.

Assuming that what you have stated here is the full 100% truth then I do not see any reason for sanctions on your account. The most I would expect would be an “educational email” regards low quality submissions.

The choice must be yours, if you are losing confidence in the nomination move on, look for other “easier” nominations then maybe return to it at a later date.

The only other option is to hope that a member of staff reads this thread and makes a comment.

Note: Staff will be identified by using a name that starts “ScopelyExp”

What I am afraid of is being accused of misleading/abuse. Because I am fully aware there is a school on the same premises even though the mosque was established long before and is its own entity that is open to the public. I want to be fully transparent that there is a school there but it’s inaccessible to the public. It should fall under the same criteria that accepted the Masjid Ghuraba pokestop and Bury Park Mosque as both these mosques run registered schools for under 18s.

My friend has opted out as she doesn’t want to risk a ban. There really isn’t much we can nominate here as most places that meet the criteria have already been nominated. And any new cafés and restaurants get rejected for not showing importance to the community :woman_shrugging:t2:

I can only give my opinions, the choice as to be yours.

Common advice on the forums is to not use what i seen on the map as what should be accepted.

They could have been accepted under older criteria, due to the information they passed or it snuck in when it shouldn’t have but could be removed at any time if someone reports it.

Good Luck
