Two Gyms in the same S2 Cell

A gym recently got moved to it’s correct location, which now placed it within the same S2 cell as another pokemon gym.

Location edit was approved on 7/31/2026. It is now 8/12/2026 and the two gyms still exist within Pokemon Go. Any idea how to “refresh” or get Niantic to update. I’ve tried the method I read about online where you add in more photos to the existing gyms to “force” a refresh, but nothing changed.

Blue dot is where the gym used to be, arrow next to gym indicator is where it is now. The other gym is on the splash pad in the bottom left.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. You can’t force a gym to disappear, trying to manipulate is even considered abuse, and may result in a warning or even a ban.

We can check if the behaviour of the gyms is accurate, if you provide the coordinates of the gyms.

Ahhh OK. Here are the coordinates:

Talavera Rec Center - 29.691375, -95.807216
Talavera Splash Pad - 29.691024, -95.807571

Indeed strange behaviour.

I can see that the move of Talavera Recreation Center appears to be correct, but indeed strange that both are live in the same cell.

I do expect that sooner or later the cell will be rebalanced.

Just one of those things I guess? I’ll post back on here if anything ever changes.

Thanks for the confirmation!

I had a location edit accepted about 12 months ago that put 2 wayspots in the same cell. It has only recently re-calculated.

There was no Gyms involved so we just had the extra Stop for a year.

My thought was “I have done my bit, down to Scopely Explore (Niantic) now”

Holy cow! hahaha

I am aware of two examples locally where there is both a pokestop and a gym in the same S17 cell and they’ve been like that since at least 2024 when I first encountered them, so I am not sure of the circumstances that led to their creation.

Woah! Maybe the cells don’t mean what we think they mean?

Staff do not acknowledge cell rules fwiw.

It used to be possible to abuse location edits to force multiple game locations into the same L17 S2 cell, but changes were made to restrict the distance an edit could be made in game, and recalculation of game status after an edit became the norm. There are sometimes glitches with status when staff move wayspots still, but I would expect those to resolve themselves eventually.
