Wayspot Removal Appeal: Grand Masonic Lodge of Texas Marker | Unsafe Pedestrian Access

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Additional Information:

I am appealing the repeated denial of removal requests for this Wayspot due to significant pedestrian safety concerns.

Although the marker physically exists, its location immediately adjacent to a roadway with a reported 35 mph speed limit presents several hazards:

  • No safe pedestrian infrastructure: There is no visible sidewalk, designated pedestrian pathway, or protected standing area near the marker.
  • Dangerous roadside positioning: The marker sits immediately beside moving traffic, with minimal separation from the roadway.
  • Drainage ditch: A ditch and uneven terrain directly behind the marker significantly restrict the available space for pedestrians to stand or approach safely.
Limited pedestrian access: The nearby gravel driveway provides vehicular access to a private residential property rather than serving as a designated pedestrian pathway. Reaching the marker appears to require walking along the roadway or entering the private driveway.
No safe roadside parking: The marker is located alongside a two-lane roadway with no designated shoulder or roadside parking. Vehicles cannot safely pull over to access the Wayspot without obstructing moving traffic, further limiting safe access for visitors and Pokémon GO players.

These conditions raise serious concerns about the safety of pedestrians attempting to interact with this Wayspot, particularly because it currently functions as a Pokémon GO Gym, where players may gather or remain stationary for raids and battles.

I have reported this location multiple times through the appropriate channels, but my requests have consistently been declined.

I respectfully request that the Wayfarer team reconsider this Wayspot based specifically on its lack of safe pedestrian access, rather than its cultural or historical significance.

The attached photographs and satellite imagery document the marker’s proximity to moving traffic, the absence of pedestrian infrastructure, and the drainage ditch immediately behind it.

I recognize that this is a legitimate physical marker. However, I believe its roadside placement warrants further review under Wayfarer’s pedestrian safety requirements.

Thank you for reviewing this appeal and considering the documented safety concerns.

Thanks for the appeal @FonzGo , we reviewed this Wayspot again and stand by our decision to not retire this Wayspot.

Somehow, they always seem to be gyms, don’t they?

It makes sense why gyms would get the most attention as they have to be directly interacted with.

To be fair, I expected that this one would be removed for unsafe access.

You are right. This place is making me far too cynical

I did look for a stop that had been like-bombed, but there isn’t one, so no reason to be so suspicious!

Are you able to provide additional context as to why this wayspot is valid? I thought safe-pedestrian access is a non-negotiable criteria.

There is not a single sidewalk in sight in any direction or across the street.

Why are you cynical and of whom? Genuine question.

Staff have previously confirmed that a grass verge can be considered safe pedestrian access, but I think it always has to be a case-by-case analysis.

Sometimes it seems that every third post fits with my “bank robber asking the police for directions to the bank” metaphor. An awful lot of players post here because their initial attempt to manipulate the gameboard has failed and they have the sheer hubris to think that they can demand the changes they want without anyone looking long enough to see what they are doing. It usually takes about 2 minutes on the wayfarer map to identify that the move they want is incorrect and will move the waypoint into an empty cell, or that the gym that they are trying to get removed will lead to the creation of a new gym that got 12 photos uploaded to it yesterday.

All too often, people are tiresome, sneaky and predictable. :man_shrugging:

True, but what they don’t realize is that we can see their other ineligible Wayspots around the one they posted about and report those too.

See the “where’s my third gym?” post a hour or two ago, that’s going to result in (I would assume) multiple accounts banned and at least three cells cleared of 80% of their fake stops.

(Although I should say that I don’t know if the OP was actually involved in the creation of the stops).

Oh, I see what you mean. Now. Shaq meme indeed.

I get that. That’s a genuine concern to be weary about, but how is anybody supposed to submit anything real in good faith here if having a fresh forum profile is cause for distrust.

I wouldn’t want my kid playing at the spot I reported, so I did. Wouldn’t you have done the same?

Honestly, I don’t know. This one is a bit of a 50-50, and to be blunt, I’m used to living in a country that generally gives more priorities to pedestrians than the US seems to.

Ultimately, if you’ve not done anything wrong, then that will probably become apparent, as it has done here. But you are right. I will try to be slightly less suspicious

Totally. I’m new to this area, I come from a place with walkable neighborhoods so I get the sentiment.

Just trying to do my part to leave this place a little better than I found it.

So where do I go from here? There’s not much to go off without any insight from the reviewer.

To be blunt, you probably don’t go anywhere. Staff had a second look, saw the site pretty clearly on StreetView and made their decision.

It’s not impossible of course, but it’s highly unlikely that it will be changed / commented on further. I can’t imagine what further evidence you could offer that isn’t already visible. :man_shrugging:

Just trying to understand the culture here. Thanks for the response.

I try to take everyone at face value until I can’t. This forum is meant to be a welcoming place. Guidelines - Scopely Explore Wayfarer Community

Most of the posts we see requesting removal of a gym laid out with bullet points and bolded highlights turn out to be ai generated requests to remove a gym in order to manipulate the game board to put the gym in a more desirable place for that user.

I am very sorry if the community has made you feel unwelcome.

Edit: I was very confused what this is, since it did not seem to be associated with the Grand Masonic Lodge of Texas as in the Wayspot name. However, when I searched on the words actually on the marker, “Gran Logia Internacional de Habla Hispana” I found that is down this driveway at 1215 E Violet Ave, McAllen, TX, which also has a Wayspot that I hadn’t even noticed in looking at the street sign. I wonder if these should be marked as duplicates and the single Wayspot should be located at the building as is often done with churches and their signs? You might be being too generous. There’s two pokestops next to each other (26.240254,-98.203990 and 26.240152,-98.204244) which have 6 likes each, enough to become the replacement if photo likes are still used. Not everyone gets their replacement bombed with dozens of likes when a mere handful would do.
