Hello everyone,
in a small village, we have a little art exhibition in the publicly accessible courtyard of a hotel, which has been featured in the game as an gym and a PokéStop ever since Pokémon Go was launched in 2016.
Due to the weather (rain, snow, ice, sun), the sculpture that originally served as the Gym has since been removed and replaced with new artworks.
What happens now if I report this Gym?
Will it simply be deactivated and the cell remain ‘blocked’, or will this location be removed from the game entirely, so that a new point of interest can be submitted for this spot?
It would be disappointing if this small village were to lose its only arena as a result – especially as there are still more than enough interesting and worthwhile places to visit in the affected cell.
Best regards

It depends, is the wayspot for a specific piece or for the exhibition in general?
If a wayspot is removed, the cell will not remain blocked either way, but the gym will likely move to a different location
Thank you very much for your quick reply!
The gym was referring only to one specific piece in the exhibition.
The PokéStop (which would then probably become a gym) is located in an adjacent cell and features a different exhibit.
Unfortunately, there are no other attractions in the village.
My suggestion would be to submit 1 of these “interesting places” in the cell. Once accepted you can report the Gym (Arena) POI that no longer exists (you will require evidence). Once removed the new unused wayspot should appear in the game.
There is no guarantee with pokestop will be promoted to a Gym (Arena).
If I’m understanding correctly, there’s only one other pokestop in the s14?
In that case, removing the gym would not result in the other stop becoming a gym, since the s14 would then be below the necessary population. But adding a replacement would resolve that.
I would check carefully though to make sure that’s actually the case (that there are no other pokestops other than the one you mentioned “in an adjacent cell”).
Also, if the existing pokestop is a showcase, I think that makes it ineligible to gym, so if you are really in a population 2->1->2 situation, the new stop would become an instant gym.
(Operating in the outer suburbs of a major US city, I have had four new stops become instant gyms, in each case mine was the second stop in an s14 and the existing one was a showcase.)
If you’re willing to supply the lat/long coordinates of your village to this public forum there are a number of us here who enjoy scouring Google satellite and street view to help you find other potential Wayspots too.
Hello everyone,
thank you very much for your comments and suggestions on how to proceed!
I have now submitted another POI in the cell in question and, once it has hopefully been accepted, I will report the old (no longer existing) gym.
The other PokéStop already in the game is indeed a Showcase Stop.
I’m just hoping that my new submission will be upgraded directly to a gym once the old gym has been removed.
Thank you very much also for offering to keep an eye out for any other possible POIs for me.
Unfortunately, there’s no Street View for that village, and you can hardly see anything at all on the old Google Maps images.
Best regards
