Hello lovely people, I have a mysterious vanishing gym.
Had a gym that has been in-game for around 18 months, although the POI has been present for at least five years. As of a few weeks ago, it has vanished, and although there are 15 active POIs in the S2 cell, it hasn’t been replaced.
I’ve had a look on Wayfarer, and the gym remains on that map, but when you click on it, the side text says: “This gym has a status of ‘inactive’ It will not appear in Pokemon Go”.
Now there have always been two active stops in that S17 cell. I assume someone got a move edit approved years ago - it’s always been this way and I don’t think anything has changed recently. Even if it had, I would have expected one POI to vanish and a new gym to spawn elsewhere.
So what’s the story? Is it going to be stuck like this forever, blocking any other gyms from appearing, or is there a pathway out of this?

Yeah, I can’t figure out any reason for it to behave this way. My understanding is that if the owners had requested the gym be disabled then it would remain, but would not host raids. If they asked for it to be removed entirely it would be gone, and a new gym would have spawned.
Aside from there being two active POIs inside the S17 cell, the only other thing that is slightly unique about this gym is that it was created when another gym was moved out of this S2 cell (which reverted to a normal stop in the new S2 cell, as you would expect). But that was about 18 months ago, and this one has been a stable gym that whole time.
Think we are going to need a staff answer for this one?!
I would think the team might have to do work some magic as I think / guess the processes still recognise the church as gym. So there are the expected number of gyms according to one part but that selected gym is then also tagged so it can’t be used.
There are similar examples on the forum.
But why this situation arose is a puzzle as you would expect an owner to request the stop too but maybe not.
I am moving it to the bugs channel so it can be looked into - only wayfarer team will know I think
Appreciated. It’s been at least four days, possibly much longer as I’ve not paid too much attention to the area since I got the gym gold a year ago. Campfire is slow, but not that slow…
I think it took two weeks for a gym to drop off campfire that had the raids turned off. I wish I had noted the day we noticed it wasn’t hosting them anymore.

I was hoping from an on the ground view, as the map data is quite old I believe. It’s hard when data we see is not reliable.
Maybe the church is back and all is well.
