The lfl here appears to both be on sfprp and not have safe pedestrian access to me.
(To be clear, I am not staff to decide your appeal. These are the issues I see that may have been why it was removed that you will need to address in your appeal. Welcome to the forum!)
This is on public land; the private residence is behind the fence. It was approved on appeal when it was first submitted years ago, and is an oft-visited stop by many in the community. The owner of the private land adjacent did not report this… as that is me!
As stated we are not staff so we can only suggest possible reasons for its removal. If you wish to make a successful appeal these are what you will need to prove.
SFPRP: This will depend on your local laws. This sort of land outside the fence can be…
Part of the property so is eneligible.
Public land owned by the authorities which should be eligible but evidence you have the authority to place the LFL may be needed.
Some places these are owned by the authority but is the owners responsibily to maintain. These are borderline but IMO should be ineligible.
You would also have to show evidence that it is safe to actually stand at the wayspot without the risk of being in the road.
Anybody can report it, it is then checked by staff who make the final decision. Often wayspots will be shown in nearby new nominations or edits and this is when they are reported.
The ability to report live Wayspots directly from the Wayfarer map when you see them is a recent addition. That can explain why it has existed so long and just now been reported.
Being outside the fence does not indicate that it is outside the property boundary.
This is by no means an unsafe stop, as it is considered one of the nicest community libraries in the city, frequented by elementary children daily (we even stock it with Pokémon cards). Other little libraries are positioned even more on private property nearby and are still deemed acceptable? This stop has been used by various PoGo players to create routes, and for years has served this neighborhood as a Wayspot for our suburban players. How do I appeal this?
Hello,
First this topic / thread that you have created is the correct way to appeal
The focus of this topic needs to remain on this wayspot. And if it is a valid wayspot.
The situation of other wayspots is not important. Nor is it’s in game use with routes etc.
it is a little free library so as an object this is fine.
The key points to address then are about its location as to whether this is on single family private residential property and since it has been raised safety.
I am looking at this through the eyes of someone in the UK.
I don’t think there is any issue over safety there is a clear pavement walkway along this road. It is next to a pedestrian entrance to the home and a solid pavement next to it. In my view I have no safety concerns.
Looking back through streetview this odd bit of land you would expect to be paved hasn’t been. There was a chain fence which was directly replaced with current white fence in 2014/5. Keeping this outside that line. It was pretty much untended until the library appears in 2020.
To my UK eyes this is outside the PRP. It looks like the area is where people have access to.
However experience on this forum is that this may not be the case in the USA.
To strengthen your case it would be helpful if you can provide a link to property boundary lines.
Apart from that you simply have to wait for the wayfarer team to review and post their decision.
But that information is not in the decided emails. And I don’t know of a way to tie those back to the original report when they have generic titles like “Little Free Library”.
I’d be happy to find out I’ve been wrong all these years!
Typically I try to only send in one report per day for generic “Little Free Library” titled spots. But sometimes I mess up. And the decided emails use a different timezone, so the “on MON DAY, YEAR” could be off by a day compared to my personal notes and email time stamps.
For example, one report I recently made has an email timestamp of “Nov 3, 2026, 6:48 PM”. But the decided email says “on Nov 4, 2026.”
Oh! I misunderstood the original issue. Would be nice if every email came with a ticket number for matching them up. When I get a report back, I search my inbox for the title, pair up the two, then delete both. Usually works.
