Unable to submit Wayspot location edits from Pokémon GO – has this feature been moved to Wayfarer?

  • Description of the issue

I am currently unable to submit location edits for existing Wayspots directly from Pokémon GO.
When I open the location edit screen, Google Maps appears briefly, but after a moment it is replaced by an error message stating that Google Maps could not load correctly. The Submit button then remains disabled, so the location edit cannot be sent.
I reproduced the same issue on my own Pokémon GO account and on a separate account belonging to a family member.
Both devices are iPhones running iOS, and Pokémon GO is updated to the latest available version on both devices.
The issue also occurs with multiple different Wayspots, including nearby Wayspots visible from home, so it does not appear to be specific to one account, one device, or one Wayspot.
Location permissions are enabled without restrictions. I also checked the relevant device and Safari settings, but the issue persists.
I am aware that Wayspot-related functions are currently being moved to Wayfarer, and I also know that Wayspot location edits can be submitted through Wayfarer / Wayfarer Support.
My question is specifically whether the ability to submit location edits directly from Pokémon GO has now been intentionally removed or migrated to Wayfarer, or whether this Google Maps loading error is an unintended bug.
I was still able to successfully submit a Wayspot location edit from Pokémon GO on October 3, 2026, so this appears to have changed very recently.

Confirmed working on October 3, 2026.

  • Device type, model, and operating system
    iPhone [16], iOS [26.61]
    Family member’s device: iPhone [11], iOS [26.6.2]

  • Game & Game Version (if applicable)

Pokémon GO [0.431.1]

Additional information:

I understand that location edits can also be handled through Wayfarer and Help Chat. However, in my experience, Help Chat requests can sometimes take more than 10 days to be processed.
By contrast, location edit submissions made directly from Pokémon GO have sometimes entered review more quickly in my area, depending on the location. For clear and straightforward location errors, submitting the edit directly from the game has therefore sometimes been a smoother and more efficient route.
Because of that, I would like to know whether this in-game location editing route has been intentionally discontinued as part of the Wayfarer migration, or whether the current Google Maps loading error is unintended.
The map sometimes appears normally for a moment before the error replaces it.

This happened to me last week too (also iphone 16) and then it fixed itself at a later point in time. So maybe try restarting the app or your phone

Thanks for the information!
I just tried it again before restarting either the app or my iPhone, and it is working normally now.
I also checked a family member’s iPhone, and it has also started working again without restarting the app or the device.
So in both cases, the issue seems to have resolved itself after some time. I’m still not sure what caused it, but your comment prompted me to check again.
Thanks again for letting me know!
