Request for Reconsideration — Hazel Park Recreation Center Wayspot Location

Wayspot Title: Hazel Park Recreation Center
Wayspot Description: “Hazel Park Rec Center in St Paul, MN. A center for exercise, community, and activity.”

City: Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA
Current Coordinates: 44.970184, -93.020410
Requested Coordinates: 44.9699558, -93.0206542
Previous Location Edit Request Denied: November 2, 2026

I respectfully request that Scopely staff reconsider the November 2, 2026 denial of my proposed location correction for Hazel Park Recreation Center.

I believe the Wayspot’s existing title and description provide particularly compelling evidence that the intended subject is the recreation center itself, rather than the freestanding sign where the pin is currently located.

The Wayspot is titled “Hazel Park Recreation Center” and its description reads:

“Hazel Park Rec Center in St Paul, MN. A center for exercise, community, and activity.”

Neither the title nor the description identifies the freestanding sign as the subject. Instead, both clearly emphasize the recreation center as a community facility where people gather, exercise, and participate in activities.

I acknowledge that the Wayspot’s lead photograph depicts the freestanding sign. However, I believe the original contributor likely photographed the sign as a convenient means of identifying the recreation center, not because the sign itself was the intended point of interest.

A photograph used to identify a facility should not necessarily determine the geographic placement of a Wayspot representing that facility.

The current coordinates, 44.970184, -93.020410, place the Wayspot at the detached sign. My requested coordinates, 44.9699558, -93.0206542, correspond to the main pedestrian entrance of the actual recreation center building.

The published Wayfarer Location Guidelines advise that pins for large objects, including buildings, should be positioned along their edge or entrance, ideally at a natural point of approach.

Policy reference:

I believe the requested relocation better reflects both the established identity of this Wayspot and the intent of these location guidelines.

I recognize that the lead photograph and existing pin are consistent with one another. However, that consistency alone does not resolve whether the pin accurately represents the subject identified by the Wayspot’s title and description.

Because the requested relocation exceeds 10 meters, ordinary in-game location editing is not available, making staff intervention necessary.

I respectfully ask staff to relocate this Wayspot to 44.9699558, -93.0206542, or to an immediately adjacent position accurately representing the main pedestrian entrance.

This is not an attempt to repurpose the Wayspot, change its identity, or obtain an advantage in any particular game. Quite the opposite: the requested correction would preserve the existing identity of Hazel Park Recreation Center while improving its geographic representation on the Scopely Explore map.

If staff nevertheless determine that the freestanding sign is the more appropriate location, I would appreciate clarification as to how that placement better represents a Wayspot explicitly titled and described as a recreation center.

My interest remains the accuracy, consistency, and long-term integrity of the Wayspot map.

Thank you for reconsidering this request.

I will be watching this topic. We have seen that staff do not tend to make a location edit away from an already correct location. As the sign is a correct location for the Wayspot, I am not surprised that they did not move it. I am interested in what the bar is for a more correct location.

The photo of the sign appears to be the oldest on the Wayspot, so that is where I would expect the Wayspot to have been pinned.

Hey @cornelwest ,

The Wayspot is at the correct location and doesn’t require any adjustments.

Best,
